About Naturescape

In the immediate vicinity of Naturescape, on the sunny southwest coast of Curaçao, nestled between hills and crystal-clear waters, lies the charming fishing village of Sint Michiel, affectionately known as Boca Sami by the locals. This village breathes history, nature, and an authentic Caribbean atmosphere that embraces you immediately upon arrival.Once, Sint Michiel was an important center for salt harvesting and fishing.

Traces of this rich past are still visible in the form of old salt pans and the ruins of Fort Sint Michiel, which once protected the bay against intruders. From the fort, a breathtaking view extends over the glistening sea and the bobbing fishing boats in the bay.

"Our mission is to create an oasis of calm where guests can connect with nature."

Daily life in Boca Sami flows peacefully, in harmony with the sea. Local fishermen return with their catch of the day, while the scent of grilled fish greets you on the beach. Small, colorful houses are scattered along the coastline, each telling their own story.

Beneath the crystal-clear water surface lies another world. Snorkelers and divers discover a rich underwater landscape here, where colorful fish dart between coral reefs. Bird enthusiasts are drawn to the nearby salt pans, where flamingos step through shallow water with graceful strides.

Hikers and adventurers can explore the hills surrounding Sint Michiel, where winding paths lead to hidden viewpoints. Here, surrounded by tranquility and natural sounds, you can pause and enjoy the panoramic view over the bay and the open sea.

Despite the proximity to bustling Willemstad, just ten minutes away by car, life in Sint Michiel seems to stand still. It's a place where time passes slowly, where the scent of sea salt hangs in the air, and where each sunset paints the landscape in warm shades of gold and orange.

Whether you come to enjoy local dishes, explore underwater, or simply to find complete peace—Sint Michiel welcomes you with open arms and lets you take a piece of its soul with you in your heart.

The architect

In the sun-drenched Curaçao, architect Cees den Heijer has set himself the goal of contributing to the island's economic development with a clear vision, particularly in the tourism sector. Before moving to Curaçao, Cees Den Heijer was already a renowned name in the Netherlands, where he left his mark on various architectural masterpieces. His talent did not go unnoticed, and he was awarded the prestigious Cola Debrot Prize, an honor given to those who make exceptional contributions to the culture and architecture of the Antillean islands. His first project was the successful Boca Gentil resort in Jan Thiel. This luxurious resort, which seamlessly harmonizes with nature, reflects his vision of eco-tourism: luxury and comfort without compromising the island’s natural beauty.

He continued this vision with the unique nature resort Bohemi, where the Naturescape villas are located. Our stunning villas are situated next to his own estate, Landhuis Klein Sint Michiel. This location, surrounded by lush flora, offers guests the opportunity to escape the daily hustle and immerse themselves in the tranquil nature of Curaçao. The design of the villas is inspired by nature; the houses are elevated on 'tree trunks,' and the colors used are all derived from the island’s natural palette.

Cees Den Heijer is currently focused on realizing the ambitious project "The Wharf" in Punda, Willemstad – a true example of blending historical heritage with modern architecture. Now, Cees Den Heijer is fully engaged in his latest project, West Wharf, located on the waterfront in Otrobanda. This innovative development promises to be not only a vibrant meeting place for both locals and tourists but also a redefinition of the Curaçaoan lifestyle. With respect for local traditions and architectural norms, Cees Den Heijer aims to create a space that fosters social interaction and celebrates culture.
